Integration at all levels and across all domains formed the central theme of this year’s DSEi event. Held last week at Excel in London, the event took a deep dive into the pace of change that will need to be met in order to deliver a competitive advantage.
The modernization of the armed forces to meet the demands of the modern information age has created the need for a huge strategic shift. There is heightening demand for the disruptive application of technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data in the cyber domain and an increased focus on defeating adversaries in the ‘grey zone’ through special operations, as well as support for improved decision making aided by data analytics and information technologies. The unique attributes of satellite connectivity have always been a mainstay of military communications and they form a key part of any government and defense communications portfolio both today and in the future.
As a market leader in satellite ground infrastructure and solutions for government and defense networks, ST Engineering iDirect has embraced the complexity of military networks both today and tomorrow. For more than 35 years, our VSAT platforms have featured superior standards for performance, efficiency, security and mobility for government and defense agencies that rely on satellite to achieve mission success with the highest degree of visibility, coordination and safety.
By combining multi-layered security and resiliency technologies with network diversity, multifrequency terminals and multi-orbit and multi-access software-defined modems, a military network provider can achieve the operational advantage for successful military operations.
After such a long break from face-to-face events, the ST Engineering iDirect team was excited to participate in-person and our stand showcased our latest milsatcom solutions, including:
Starlight 1000 Manpack Terminal: This tri-band manpack is a custom-built terminal providing high reliability and flexibility for operations in harsh environments.
SMB3315 Satellite Modem Board: The new SMB3315 Satellite Modem Board is suitable for integration into highly compact COTM terminals for the government and defence, broadcast and mobility markets and offers unprecedented performance and flexibility in a modem board.
950mp Satellite Modem Board: The 950mp Board Satellite Modem is iDirect’s smallest and most powerful, lightweight router designed for integration into highly portable COTM solutions. Certified for WGS and designed for operation in TRANSEC networks it can be easily integrated into existing and new smaller man portable VSAT terminals.
iQ 200 Satellite Modem Board: The iQ 200 Integrated Router Board features DVB-S2/DVB-S2X with Adaptive TDMA returns. Designed to integrate into complete terminals serving small to medium government, enterprise and maritime application, the iQ 200 Board combines high-performance iQ series features with mobility.
Overall, the event was a success although numbers were inevitably down on previous DSEi events due to the pandemic and resulting travel restrictions. However, it was the first major opportunity to network in something close to normal conditions, without restrictions. Though the audience was predominantly UK based, there was still an international flavor with many defense attaches and delegations in attendance.
Our Technical Director, Dave Davis commented: “We met lots of people from our partner network and carried out face-to-face meetings for the first time in 18 plus months. We also met new folk and expanded our network across different sectors. We are very much looking forward to our next event, Global MilSatcom in November.”
