Mx-DMA MRC: Expect a Greater Return

Mx-DMA MRC

In 2014, we introduced our Mx-DMA waveform technology. This was a milestone moment for the industry as it combined the efficiency of SCPC and the flexibility of MF-TDMA return technologies over satellite, something that had never been achieved before.

Since then, Mx-DMA has been through its own evolution. Last year, we brought out our latest technology release, Mx-DMA HRC, which saw results of three times more throughput in shared bandwidth networks – a new record with an aggregate speed of 600Mbps.

This spring, we’re pleased to introduce Mx-DMA® MRC (Multi-Resolution Coding), the industry’s most efficient, dynamic return technology. It brings forth the full scalability of TDMA return link technologies to the original Mx-DMA HRC return at the same SCPC-like efficiency levels, transforming the capabilities of service providers worldwide by marking the end of tradeoffs.

Mx-DMA MRC is a patented multiple-access waveform that incorporates the scalability of MF-TDMA with the efficiency of SCPC into a single return technology suited to support a wide set of applications. Service providers can now cover a myriad of use cases in a single return link, from cruise ships and large enterprise customers to SCADA and broadband access, sharing satellite capacity more efficiently over a large group of satellite terminals and applications to achieve the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO).

The Key Advances

Mx-DMA features several key technology advancements that build upon the strong foundations of Mx-DMA HRC.

The first is Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation. Mx-DMA MRC re-distributes the available spectral resources 25 times per second, allowing it to seamlessly adapt to changing traffic demand and link conditions and ensuring industry leading granularity in bandwidth assignment, lowest latency and jitter, and highest efficiency for any traffic profile.

Scalable Demodulator Technology supports up to 5,000 active terminals with a single multi-carrier demodulator, resulting in increased hub density with less hardware needed at the hub side.

Mx-DMA MRC enables high efficiency gains by adapting the payload length in real time versus using pre-coded static payload length like other technologies. This results in bandwidth savings across all applications, from low-rate for bursty traffic profiles to high-rate traffic profiles.

Satisfy Every Application

The beauty of Mx-DMA MRC lies in its flexibility and scalability which guarantees the highest efficiency for any type of application from very bursty traffic through to high bitrate services. For example, applications with relatively lower bitrates, such as SOHO and broadband access, typically have a higher degree of overbooking to accommodate bandwidth sharing. Moving up the scale, Enterprise, SNG, Government, Cellular Backhaul, and Maritime market applications have higher bandwidth requirements with less bandwidth sharing.

Expect a Greater Return

Mx-DMA MRC allows users to expect more from their network.

It promotes choice, with the end of trade-offs in networks design. It supports a mix of services with common hardware in a shared return capacity.

It offers efficiency through the highest level of intelligent, real-time bandwidth allocation at SCPC-like efficiencies.

It promotes increased scalability by bringing high performance and efficiency to thousands of terminals for the widest mix of applications and network requirements.

It allows greater service flexibility because it manages complex traffic demand in a simpler way, all on a single return link. With optimal bandwidth utilization, users can confidently deliver the best Quality of Experience (QoE).

It offers higher profitability with lower TCO through its scale and agility to deliver services in a more cost-efficient way and build new business across all markets with the lowest TCO for a multi-service platform.
